Since February 2008, to purchase stock through ACM, you had needed to be an existing client of a participating stockbroker or become a client of a participating stockbroker. However, the online stock services section of AfricanCapitalMarkets.com have now been sold. All outstanding transactions through ACM will gradually be transferred to the new managing stockbrokers. Due to the late sending of certificates for Nigerian Initial Public Companies (IPO's), many investors have recently expressed considerable displeasure at delays by public quoted companies to dispatch their share certificates several months and even years after the closure of their public offers.
As a result of this, ACM had pioneered a system of only offering stocks held by a major custodian bank so that investors can have total confidence in the fact that as they pay for their stock, they are guaranteed almost immediate receipt of that stock, and there would be no delays should they wish to sell that stock. However, ACM future services will be restricted to information provision, and this system pioneered by ACM will now be offered by the new managing stockbrokers.
